Curriculum

“Everyone has a passion inside of them, we aim to keep that passion alive through the education we provide”

Our curriculum promotes leadership and encourages a strong work ethic. Life skills is an important focus of our curriculum. All courses are offered at a level which will allow students to thrive in competitive environments as well as work collaboratively.

At each grade level, a cumulative group project is required. These will have an international focus. In the group project for ninth grade, students will have the opportunity to explore and experience being a part of the United Nations in a project in which they will act as a designated country to make important decisions about current global issues.

Courses are integrated in our curriculum, each working within another to provide a holistic education. A feature of this is our Egypt unit which incorporates English, math, and science in one unit. Students will read about Ancient Egypt, learn how pyramids were built and will attempt to build their own model pyramids. They will also use scientific experimentation to learn about anatomy when learning about mummies.

Rather than offering electives, courses that make students well-rounded people will be required as part of the curriculum. These courses include interpretative dance, world art, music, and wood workshop. Students will have the opportunity to explore more of these life skills. Through our facilities such as our green house students can explore more about our environment as will follow with our school’s mission to stay “green”. A rock climbing course is used in order to build team work and trust among students.

Our curriculum includes a mentor program to help our students succeed at their own pace. Experienced students will help newer students as our school is a community and students are encouraged to help one another.

Field trips/LIFE skills experience
Through student effort fundraising, each grade will get an opportunity to go on a weekly trip, to experience a new place with community bonding emphasis. These are designed to have students explore new things and engage with others that they do not regularly interact with on campus. It also develops them into a social, moral individuals. FaYYang requires students to complete a minimum of 50 hours of community service over their time in school (It must be spent in a minimum of 2 different sectors.) They will also write a report about their experiences and apply it to the real world.
